‘wicked: for good’ film premiere

ariana grande walks the yellow carpet in custom thom browne for the
singapore premiere of ‘wicked: for good.’ 

law roach styled the off-the-shoulder corseted gown, crafted from over 1,500
hours of hand embroidery. law took time to discuss the dialogue between stylist
and designer, citing thom’s unique approach to world-building and
collaboration. he also referenced lena horne in ‘the wiz’ as a guiding vision
to shape the look. 

the resulting gown merges a shimmering oz with thom browne’s singular craftsmanship, reflected in every bead, every stitch, every shimmer… 

inspired by look 10 from the fall/winter ‘24 couture collection, ariana’s dress features godets of pleated tulle in shades of powder blue and white. the color palette includes white, sapphire blue, dusty rose, iridescent and transparent tones, all worked over layers of tulle amounting to 450 meters in total. 

the design incorporates 36,000 mixed white and clear cut beads, 40,000 clear bugle beads, 58,000 blue bicone crystals, 13,000 blue flat-back crystals, and 110,000 light rose sequins. 

raised bugle beads were used to create texture and height, while clear materials were sewn with colored threads to achieve a subtle gradient of hues. the combination of bicone and flat-back crystals add depth and dimension to the embroidery, with scattered clear sequins that catch and reflect light. inspired by the iridescent interior of a pearl shell, the embroidery artwork transitions into crystal clusters across the skirt. 

when ariana steps into view, we’re transported to the world of oz… when she turns her back, the signature red, white and blue grosgrain loop tab reminds us we are in thom’s world…
